Thanks Chad. When I built the rod I wanted to create something distinctly "New Zealand". Paua shell has been a material used by Maori artisans for thousands of years, so I wanted to incorporate that into my build. There's a thin ring of Paua (Abalone) shell inlaid into the handle, and the reel seat insert is also Paua shell veneer. I also did a butt weave using metallic thread to mirror the reel seat and metallic blue accents on the stripping guide and ferrule wraps. To top off the whole "Kiwi" theme, I built on a CTS blank manufactured here in NZ.
I haven't bumped into too many dudes fishing a similar rod :)
