"Rip Van Winkle"

Taking a few minutes to talk about our day and get a bite to eat, we rested our rods. Notice the yellow rig in the middle. This setup is a 47yr old Shakespeare with South Bend reel in mint condition. The owner, John, caught one trout the only time he used it back in 1967 (the year I was born), when he was 19yrs old. I invited John, who happened to be the father of my best childhood friend, on our Spring Steelhead trip which he was eager to go on. He pulled the old man down from the rafters, dusted him off after a long sleep, loaded the spool and caught his first Steelhead 47 years later. I haden't seen John in 31 years but the smile on his face was just as I remembered it from when I was a kid. His big "Bucket List" moment will forever be etched in my memory and in the memories of the rest of the guys who were with us. His first Steelhead at the age of 66 and my #1, top of the list fishing moment.
