I spent another few hours out fishing another of northeast Pennsylvania's small freestone streams. Fishing was cut short by a severe thunderstorm that forced a 2 mile hike out in a torrential downpour. With no waterproof storage, the gear is lucky to have survived.

James Plante is a fly fishing guide and instructor for the Housatonic River Outfitters, Inc. in Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut. He guides and instructs on the Housatonic and Farmington Rivers and is an avid saltwater fly fisherman. Jim describes fly fishing as "both is his passion and his love," a sentiment perhaps most appreciated by his wife and two children. He sleeps, drinks, breathes, and eats fly fishing. Whether he is on the water or off, his love and passion for the sport shine through.

It has been a while since we've seen Allen Fly Fishing's "Trout" Series of reels available in the green and red colors they have been available in before. Today, Allen Fly Fishing announced that the Trout series is once again available in red and green as well as a new color Allen is calling "Deep Navy". You've heard before from us how impressed we've been with the Trout series, so we're crossing our fingers that we'll be able to resist the lure of the new and returning colors.

In just over six weeks, I'll be headed back to South Carolina for a second tour of duty chasing Redfish on the grassy flats in South Carolina's lowcountry. Somehow, I managed to visit the South Carolina coast three times before my most recent visit without prioritizing the chasing of redfish, each time kicking myself after the fact for letting other things get in the way. After finally making my first redfish trip earlier this year, I can safely say my future visits to the lowcountry will always be marked by at least one day on a skiff. Not only was my first outing for Redfish a successful one, but I was fortunate enough to have timed my trip during Cobia season as well.

After decades in the making, transformation is finally occurring as part of the Elwha River landscape and habitat restoration project. Approved under president George W. Bush, the Elwha River Ecosystem and Fisheries Restoration Act of 1992 provided funding for a dam mitigation project that is now underway as reservoirs, Lake Aldwell and Lake Mills, behind both dams scheduled for removal are being drawn down in preparation for dam removal beginning September 17th.

While digging up some information for a recent post on how I can't stop watching Felt Soul Media's Eastern Rises, I came across a recent video about Scott Fly Rods. Felt Soul produced this video, what they're calling a "marketing documentary", for Scott fly rods to give outsiders a glimpse into the company's workings and ideals. Though I'd call "marketing documentary" a euphemism for "really good commercial", the video is -- unsurprisingly -- very well done, offers a glimpse inside a great American rod making operation and is a pleasure to watch. Complete with a couple token Frank Smethurst appearances.

It's not every day that the producers of a television show that doesn't air on PBS solicit direct financial support from its viewers, but that is exactly what the Outdoor Channel's 'Wild on the Fly' is doing. 'Wild on the Fly', which premiered last year, is a fly-fishing show that focuses on using a documentary format to provide a higher level of value to the viewer that its typical Saturday morning fishing show counterparts. While the Outdoor Channel has renewed the series for 13 new episodes, thus obviously putting an operating budget behind the series, the show's producers don't feel it's enough. That's where they hope the viewers will come in.
