Fly Fish Patagonia this March

Snag a spot on this dream itinerary while it lasts

Patagonia is one of those places that truly calls to anglers across the world. It has risen to the top of many a fisherman's bucket list, displacing other dream destinations like Alaska, Russia, Christmas Island, the Seychelles and more. And this is all with good reason. Few, if any, places in the world offer the quality and diversity of the fishing in Patagonia.

This coming March and April, head to northern Patagonia with the folks at Patagonia River Guides (PRG) to fish some of Argentina's most prolific and beautiful waters. This 9-night/8-day (8 fishing days) itinerary, custom-crafted by Hatch Magazine and the immensely capable folks at PRG, tours Patagonia's north and its storied rivers, which are widely regarded as offering the best dry fly fishing in all of South America.

THE RIVERS

Fish the northern Argentina rivers that put Patagonia fly fishing on the map back when Joe Brooks introduced them to anglers on the pages of Outdoor Life back in 1950—rivers like the Malleo, Chimehuin and Collon Cura. And, conditions permitting, you'll find your way onto local spring creeks that can offer excellent, intimate dry-fly fishing for big brown trout.

THE LODGES

It's not all about the fishing. Patagonia's culture is rich and authentic. Throughout the trip, we'll be hosted at real, working Patagonian estancias, sharing fine food and drink. Guests that join us will get to experience a diverse sampling of lodging—a refined, storied Argentine fishing lodge; a real, working, century-old estancia; and a modern, boutique lodge with what just might be the finest cuisine in all of Patagonia.

THE PEOPLE

And of course, there's the people. The thing that truly makes the time we spend on the water valuable—those we share it with. Each time we visit Patagonia, we leave with new friends—whether the world-class guides we fish with each day; the ranch and lodge owners and staff, many of whom have been managing their estancias for generations; or the fellow guests that embark on these adventures with us.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

The trip is all-inclusive. All ground transportation, guiding, lodging and food and drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages) are included.

And how about this? — So is equipment. Don't feel like lugging your rods, reels, waders and boots along on your flight to Buenos Aires? Don't. PRG will provide everything you need to hit the river. And we're not talking about hand-me-down, beat up rods and reels. Simms boots and waders, R.L. Winston rods and Abel reels loaded with fresh fly lines will be there waiting for you.

THE COST

The most amazing thing about this trip may be the value. Per-day costs of our Patagonian excursion — where you'll fish some of the best trout water found anywhere with some of the best guides on the planet, dine on fine Argentine beef, venison, lamb and more, enjoy free flowing Malbec and other local wines and aperitifs, and virtually everything is provided for/included — are less or on par with what you'd to spend for a stay in an Alaskan tent camp, where you'd typically haul your own gear, pack your own flies, fly in your own booze (if that's your thing) and enjoy home cooked, but relatively simple, meals.
