Hatch Magazine 2016 Fly Fishing Photo Contest

First Fish

After a long spring of frozen eyelets, blown rivers, and a permanent-feeling rookie stink, we went down to the lower Kinnikinnic River on Mother's Day. The river was as clear as gin (and twice as expensive!) and I started out with a Prince Nymph. No more than 3 casts and it was mine - a beautiful 16" brown. All was well for the picture until it started to squirm. I was trying to keep a smile on my face, as well as keep it in my grips. The picture speaks for itself.
