Photo contest update: 7 weeks left

Time to get out and capture that winning image
Haulin Anchor Spey Casting
'Haulin anchor', last year's third prize winner from Stu Hastie.

As we noted when we announced our 2015 Fly Fishing Photo Contest earlier this summer, this year's contest is far and away our biggest yet. All in all, we're giving away over $10,000 in prizes. Leading the pack is the grand prize, which will send its winner to The Palometa Club in Ascension Bay, Mexico for a week of chasing permit, bonefish, baby tarpon, snook, barracuda and more. As if that's not enough, the grand prize winner will tote along with him/herself a killer saltwater fly fishing outfit — rod + reel + fly line + sunglasses + flats apparel. And don't worry, we're not giving the whole farm away to the grand prize winner. The runners up will also take home prizes from sponsors Stickman Rods, Abel Reels, Airflo, Smith Optics and Simms Fishing.

That's the good news. The bad news? Entries close Oct 31. And, given that we know a lot of the folks that enter their photos head into the field or onto the water specifically with the goal of capturing that winning contest photo in mind, we wanted to make sure to drop a reminder.

Have a specific destination or locale in mind for your shot? Best get out there. Hoping to capture a stunning image of a chrome bright steelhead? Better start swinging.

Last year, the judges had over a thousand photos to pore over while attempting to pick their favorites and this year is likely to be much bigger. In other words: competition will be stiff. If you haven't yet entered this year's contest, be sure to make the images that you do submit your very best.
